Active Breath is an innovative somatic practice focused on integrating our awareness of the intrinsic connection between body, mind, and emotions through our physical experience of breath, voice, and movement.
It is a practical approach for cultivating and deepening your embodiment skills, building resilience, and developing conscious attention in your daily-lived experience.
Living in a time of whirlwind change and flux, we want to feel energized and healthy. There is a genuine need to cultivate self-care, reduce stress to build up your immune system, find joy in your active and interactive expression, and feel more grounded, calm, and aware in your body, mind, and emotional states.
Active Breath Somatic Practice is a tool for opening your potential and develops and shapes your embodiment skills to have a clearer sense of self and to make a positive contribution in your world.
Active Breath is a series of guided movement sequences using whole-body breathing & sound directly with physical awareness & movement. The practice builds progressively from refined, slow; attentive movement patterns aligned with breath, spine & eye movements and evolve sequentially into more whole-body breath and rhythm moving actively in space.
Benefits of Active Breath Somatic Practice
Active Breath is an in-depth somatic practice that provides more insight and refined skills to:

The Active Breath Practice is one of the aspects of the VMI Somatic Practice Certification Program that is accredited by ISMETA, KTNO, and BATC. Currently, the VMI Certification Program is being restructured and will combine in-person and online coursework. Patricia is looking at the potential to include the Active Breath Somatic Practice Program as an introductory training and part of the VMI Somatic Practice Certification Program. This will depend on the overall restructuring process being approved for accreditation
The voice is a physical instrument engaging with all of our senses. VMI Somatic Practice combines vocal expression with physical movement to deepen awareness and awaken perception in ways that foster personal change and empower transformation. Developing our body presence through actively using breath and movement informs our sense of awareness in how and what we want to communicate.
Each workshop in the series focuses on different aspects of VMI Somatic Practice that incorporate principles of Active Breath, embodied anatomy, sensory awareness, movement in space, hands-on bodywork, and guided physical re-patterning. Improvisation structures are introduced, combining vocal, physical, visual, temporal, and rhythmic elements to amplify creativity in an ensemble experience.
The two-day workshops awaken a fuller expression of voice through the entire body and stimulate fresh approaches to performance. The practice is effective in developing in the participant an engaged and concentrated whole-body experience of their breath and voice combined with active movement.

Cultivating a sense of fluidity and spaciousness within the skeletal joint structures gives the entire body a feeling of effortlessness and stability in action. The skeletal joints are essential in providing balance and clarity of initiation in our movement sequences. This workshop combines Active Breath, integrative movement, hands-on bodywork practice and guided physical repatterning skills for facilitating another person’s perceptual awareness in actively aligning their skeletal structure in their body presence.

Looking specifically at the organs’ system’s relationship to the vagus nerve and autonomic nervous system to help refine and clarify the interaction of intention and attention in our awareness and perceptual-motor coordination. The practice aims to have a calming effect on the nervous system and cultivates a fluid dynamic between inner and outer focus through active listening in our movement, breath, vocal presence, quality of touch and interactive expressive sense of play.

“EMBODYING THE VOICE WHILE MOVING”
WORKSHOP with PATRICIA BARDI
Patricia Bardi’s work combines vocal expression with physical movement to deepen awareness and awaken perception in ways that foster transformation. Participants will use vocal and physical practices to explore the skeletal, organ and fluid systems as a source for discovering resonance of sound in the body. We will work with connecting our breath to physical sensation while actively moving in space. We will engage with sound and language through improvisation opening up the space inside ourselves, in partners and in a shared circle of sound & rhythm. From this sense of physical connection, we will move into interacting with sounds coming from physical gesture and fluctuating rhythms.
Bringing the body into a felt sense of awareness provides fertile ground for bringing our awareness & vocal presence into a whole body experience that supports our capacity to communicate and enhance our performance skills. Our expression begins to converge & navigate through uncharted territory refreshing our relationship to our creativity and aliveness.
TO PARTICIPATE
The WORKSHOP is open to those who want to improve their dance experience and to those who want to get closer to listening to the body, expanding the pleasure of being present in moment.

Introduction Days for new VMI Somatic Practice Module 1 Foundation Course.
This series of one day workshops incorporates Bardi’s innovative work, Vocal Dance, a performance practice that frees the voice to be fully alive and reflected in one’s expressive vitality and movement. It also includes Voice Movement Integration (VMI) Practice an integrative somatic practice actively combining voice with movement with the deepening process of bodywork to stimulate and organize the body’s physical-perceptual-emotional awareness.
Using vocal and physical practices, participants explore the skeletal, organ and fluid systems as a source for discovering resonance and vibration of sound in the body. Combining these systems affects the overall quality of sensation, tonal color, effort and energy flow in embodying the voice. We will focus on active breath, experiential anatomy, sensory awareness and movement in space. Vocal Dance Improvisation structures are introduced combining vocal, physical, visual, temporal and rhythmic elements to amplify ensemble interaction & communication. This workshop is effective in developing in the actor, singer and dancer an engaged and concentrated whole body experience of their voice combined with movement. These workshops are open to all levels of experience.
